Brendon's Pond Build
Easter Progress Update: Big Milestones Reached
The Easter weekend marked a significant step forward in the pond build. After several long weekends of digging, I’m pleased to say that the main excavation is finally complete. It’s a great feeling to reach this stage, as the project is now really starting to take shape.
During the weekend, I also made a visit to Avenue Fisheries to collect my grow-on koi from last year. One in particular, a Gin Rin Shiro, has done especially well — growing an impressive 8cm over the winter period. It has now been introduced into the pond alongside the others, all of which are awaiting the upcoming moving day.
While I was there, I also purchased the bottom drain, ticking off another key component of the build. With that now sorted, attention turns to the next stage.
At the moment, I’m waiting for the MOT Type 1 base material to be delivered. Once that arrives, I’ll be able to complete the base preparation, ready for the first concrete pour. Reinforcement steel (rebar) will also be installed as part of this stage to ensure the structure has the necessary strength and durability.
Progress may feel gradual at times, but each step brings the project closer to completion. What started as a hole in the ground is steadily evolving into a fully realised koi pond.
